2009 Race Report

Locals defended strongly against visitors from afar, including M50-54 Half Marathoner Brian Maul all the way from Wisconsin, USA, in Feilding on business for the weekend.

The Half Marathon mens run was taken out by 26 year old Gavin Spiers from Bulls in 1hr 14 min 48 seconds, a personal best. With 3km to go, Spiers and pre-race favourite Shane Reed (Beijing triathlon rep.) were neck and neck.

Rachel Shannon from Waituna West was fastest Half Marathon womens runner. Peter Zwart from Palmerston North walked well clear of the rest of the field with Sharon Wright the best of the women.

Local, Craig McLean ran way with the 10km, over 2 minutes clear of Lance Gray (PN Athletic Club), with fastest woman Wendy Cottrell-Teahan (Feilding) 3rd overall.
